It is important to remember that whilst allergies cannot be cured, they can be controlled.
You can help the
animal by pinpointing the problem allergens and then reducing their exposure to them.
Many animals whose
allergies are controlled make remarkable improvements in their health and well being.
The results of a SENSITEST allergy test will provide an indication of the causes of the
animal’s adverse reaction
and aid decisions on the most suitable actions to take.
If food allergens are identified, then an elimination diet that avoids the problem food is recommended.
This
should also include removing any treats and snacks that contain the offending
food to aid in explaining results,we can provide food allergy leaflets,
home-prepared diet suggestions and veterinary diet ingredient charts.
Note: SENSITEST results do not confirm food allergy but assist in the
selection of the most appropriate foods for
an elimination diet.
If environmental allergens are identified, such as pollens, fleas, or dust mites,
avoiding or controlling the
offending allergens is more difficult we can provide advice
on how to limit exposure and minimise the presence
of the offending allergens.
However, the treatment of choice is often immunotherapy, which improves the animal’s
tolerance to the environmental allergens responsible for their symptoms.
We also supply the SPL (Staphylococcus Phage Lysate) vaccine,a long term
solution for treating the staphylococcus infection controlling recurrent pyoderma.
